Photograph of a portrait of Mother Xavier Ross commissioned circa 1958, based on SCLPH000001. Back: "When Sister Mary Amadeus (Clare Mary) Hayes was superior and principal at Saint Daniel's Parish School in Chicago a lovely new convent was built. The sisters had been living in a part of the school which was totally inadequate as the number of sisters grew." Sister wanted a good picture of Mother Xavier for the main entrance of the convent and considered using one of the sepia prints. But the pastor brought a Chicago artist to meet with Sister and he took the picture she had to study, This is the result, but it is not a "true" copy of the original as is obvious on study. S. M.
